“With every image I create, my intention is to capture the essence of powerful women who take ownership of their lives, whether they are based on real subjects or fictional characters.”
Alejandra Moral is an interdisciplinary educator and photography-based artist based in Tucson, Arizona. Her work brings together artistic practice and education, exploring how ways of seeing shape how we understand ourselves and the world around us. In her photographic work, directed documentary portraits coexist with constructed conceptual portraits, often centered on themes of identity, agency, and empowerment.
Born and raised in Spain, she moved to the United States in 2015 and began her artistic career in Virginia in 2017. In 2018, she presented her first solo exhibition, We the Women: Portraits of Empowerment, supported by a grant from The Puffin Foundation. Prior to this, she worked for over six years as a professional portrait photographer across multiple countries.
Alex holds an MFA in Studio Art (Photography) from Radford University and is currently based at the University of Arizona, where her work extends into teaching and the design of learning experiences that emphasize reflection, connection, and meaning-making.
